Ride Description and Comments

Contributer: gpskevin (03-31-2006)
Distance: 62.7 mi.

Follow the path of the old Stagecoach drivers through the mountain passes to the high desert and then drop into spectacular canyons back to the desert floor. Parts of this ride may be closed check with the BLM. The route leaves camp and goes to the Blu Inn. Then it follows San Felipe wash south to Carrizo Wash. It continues on Carrizo Wash under Levee Mining Railroad Trestle number 2. It then intersects with the Old Overland Stage Route. The route continues up through the pass and ends at the Old Carrizo Stage Station. From here the route continues on the Stage Route through a marshy area and intersects with Arroyo Seco Del Diablo Wash. The wash continues as a dirt road for about 6 miles and merges with the famous Diablo Canyon Drop-off route. While this is not a difficult route the views are spectacular. Diablo Canyon then merges with Fish Creek Canyon, passes steep canyon walls and the Wind Caves and opens onto the desert valley floor on Split Mountain Road. From here the route continues along the railroad tracks then merges onto an old mining road towards the Blu Inn. Recommendation: Have lunch at the Blu Inn then continue back to camp. Gasoline is available at the Blu Inn. The total trip length is 64 miles and should take about 3 hours or more. Trip difficulty is mild and dualsport is required.
