Following American Road Racing
By: Abel Lin At SMR we are definitely fans of motorcycle road racing - closely following both MotoGP and World Superbike. What's sad is that it's nearly impossible to follow our own domestic road racing series. Given the recent controversial take over and subsequent new rules by DMG ... what the heck is a Daytona Superbike and what's with the rolling starts? (but I digress) ... one would expect MORE coverage to introduce fans to the new rules. Unforunately that's not the case, in fact the opposite is happening. I'm not sure if it's related to the DMG takeover or simply a matter of advertising economics, but here in the states our national road racing coverage is relegated to AMA Pro Primetime - a compliation show of the races that air 2 WEEKS after the races take place. Needless to say, that's not nearly sufficient to keep fans interested. While not quite the same as watching full races, there are fortunately several on-line resources that we read/watch here at SMR to stay informed on the AMA road racing: OnTheThrottle.com (Twitter) - great videos recapping races and also racer interviews SuperBikePlanet.com (Twitter) - good resource for race coverage and news Even Mat Mladin has pitched in with a blog (MatMladin.blogspot.com) and a Twitter page (www.twitter.com/MatMladin). Again, not nearly as satisfing as full race coverage - but just enough to know what's going on. Published: May 28, 2009 Leave Comments |
