Moto Tricks for Treats, Anyone?

By: Jeanette Tran

Whether it’s because of their passion for riding, genuine generosity, or pure spirit for the pursuit of happiness and enjoyment of life, the riders of the motorcycling community never ceases to amaze me. This past Halloween I was really excited to dress up and run amuck around town in a costume. It was not until a few days before Halloween that my friends brought to my attention that there was a possibility of combining that passion for dressing up and my passion for riding all into one! A few riders from the forum had decided to hold a Halloween ride which included coming out and riding with costumes and all! Despite having only been riding for a couple of years, I was shocked that I did not hear about this type of ride sooner. By the time I found out about the Halloween ride I already had a costume (which was not exactly riding gear friendly) and it was such short notice that I did not think it would have enough time for me to pull together a whole other outfit just for the ride.

In the end I skipped out on the ride, but I still highly enjoyed looking at the pictures from the ride. It is always fun to see new and creative costumes in general on Halloween, so I was even more excited to see what kind of costumes would appear on the ride. What makes these costumes so exciting and different is the fact that not only is there a lot of creativity put into the costumes, but I feel like some of these costumes should deserve praise because they are not only creative, but they are also made with the motorcycle rider in mind. The creativity of the costume does obstruct the rider’s riding ability or functionality. It anything, I would say that the rider would have to have an even more creative mind in order to make a full costume geared towards a rider. Most costumes were altered in order to wear over the riding gear and full leather suits which I was really impressed with. There were costumes that ranged from school girls with just simple skirts and button up shirts over their leathers to full on skeleton monster jumpsuits with a facemask over the helmets. Even if it was something as simple as an altered face mask, flipping through the pictures and seeing all of the people in costume was such an uplifting feeling, filled with tons of high spirits and energy.

Now, even though Halloween is over and now another year away, I still cannot but feel excited and start thinking to prepare my own Halloween costume for next year. I really enjoy the fact that since we all love riding our motorcycles so, we also try to incorporate all the other things we love in our lives into riding as well. Riding is not just a means of transportation for any of these people. You either have to be crazy, or just really love to ride in order to do something with so much thought and effort. Or it could quite possibly be a little bit of both? Either way, I just know that I am surrounded by a great group of people who want to do nothing more than to have fun and enjoy their passion of riding to the fullest. It would be nice to see more and more groups starting this trend of making costumes for group rides. Either way, I know the numbers will increase for next year because I definitely plan on being of them crazy riders with a costume on their motorcycle!
