Bobster MX3-100BK Off-Road Goggle

Clear lenses and basic black

The Specs -

Sometimes you feel like being a bit different! Sometimes you just get sick of wearing the same old 'brand name' gear all the time! Sometimes, well just sometimes, bugger it... you just want to be an individual and stand out from the crowd.

These Bobster MX3 goggles don't just look the part; they damn well work as well!

The black high gloss Polyurethane frame fits well inside the helmet, mines a Fox Pro-Pilot (Carey Hart Limited Edition), and leaves only the tiniest of gaps at the sides. The RX insert, which is designed for those who wear prescription glasses, clips into two small groves just above the nose bridge.

At the back of the frame are three layers of open cell foam, the third layer feeling more suede-like. At the top and bottom of the frame is another thin layer of open celled foam to help with air circulation and reduce the possibilities of the lens fogging up.

The goggle lens, at about 3mm in thickness, is made of Polycarbonate and is tough and flexible. All the lenses available are coated for Anti-Fogging and are stated to have 100% UVA and UVB protection.

And, as is standard with all goggles, a Microfiber Carry Pouch is included which can also do double duty as a cleaning cloth.

The Verdict -

For a budget pair of goggles ($49.98 US) these are about as comfortable as many of the 'brand name' ones I've tried over the years - even more than some!

The triple layered foam fits snugly and evenly over/around the eyes without feeling too constrictive and the extra thickness helps a lot with comfort. The strap could maybe be a tad longer, an inch or two as it's a bit of a tight fit around the back of the helmet. Over time it'll stretch anyway, so that's only nit-picking. The triple line of wavy anti-slip silicon strips holds onto the helmet like a baby to its bottle.

The RX prescription insert can be a bit fiddly to fit and although it seems solid enough you still get the feeling it may break if you slip during the insertion process. I found that it's easiest to remove and insert without the lens in place. The lens itself, being a fraction thicker than standard makes it a bit difficult to replace but the flexibility of the frame itself helps in this respect.

The extra thickness of the three layer foam helps greatly with comfort but this could also be it's downfall as the glue holding the foam to the goggles frame seems to be lacking in holding/sticking power as mine pair seems to be coming adrift just above the cheek area.

The Anti-Fog coating on the lens works well though! Even heavy breathing straight onto them doesn’t show the faintest sign of fogging up.

On a scale of 1 - 10, I'll have to reluctantly give the Bobster MX3-100BK Off Road Goggle w/ RX Insert an 8 - but that's only because of the eyepiece foam coming adrift, and knowing my luck it's the only pair it's ever happened too! The limited lifetime warrantee should cover that anyway!
