Damaco Lock Alarm
By: Rod Brown A Small Sturdy Package The Specs - It's a small package - 14cm x 7.5cm x 5cm (approx. 5.5" x 3" x 2") and light too, coming at around the 500 gram (1.1lbs) mark which helps to make it easy to cart around in your backpack with you when it's not in use. The PVC coated, cut and saw resistant steel cable comes in two lengths, either 2.4m / 8ft or 4.6m / 15ft. When it's not in use, the cable winds around the case and is held in position by way of a plastic locking tab. The cable's conductive inner core actually completes a 'loop circuit' when engaged into the lock body which, if cut or tampered with, consequently disrupting the circuit, will set off the 120 Db siren. The siren itself, along with the 9V battery housing and the hardened steel lock is situated in an inner steel lining which is in turn housed inside an attack resistant, solid plastic which is also set to go off if tampered with. Also on the inside is a small switch to allow you to either scare possible thieves instantly, or give them a false sense of security for a second or two! Included with the Damaco lock alarm are two keys and two detachable brackets so that, if need be, you can attach the unit to a post or wall back at home or at your place of work or even directly onto equipment. The Verdict - It's small, light, compact...and bloody loud! Not your standard deep, base, Van Halen kind of loud, but a shrill, ear piercing, wake the neighbors' kind of loud! The shriek that comes out of it is sure to let any one around that something's not quite right. The whole unit is solid and sturdy not like some others pieces of rubbish I've seen. The 5mm thick cable is thick enough to thwart potential thieves but slim and flexible enough to be threaded though small openings and gaps on your bike and parts. At the moment it's only available at www.damaco.com.au for either $66AU for the 2.4m/8ft cable or for $88AU for the 4.6m/15ft version. So for all you American readers, grab one now while the Aussie dollars working in your favour! The fact that over 1 Million of these lock alarms have been sold world-wide gives you an indication of how popular they are! And the Wulfe Ryder score out of ten - well, I've got to give it a 9, but that's only because if I had one of these a while ago, I wouldn't be saving up for a new bike now!!!! Trust me; the night you walk out to a vacant spot where your bike was parked is most definitely the worst freakin' night of your life.
