How much can you endure?
By: Steven Peltier With Autumn in full swing and the likelihood for inclement weather upon us, I'm reminded of an amusing conversation I recently had with my brother. He's a die-hard R1200GS guy, with all the farckle, inflatable vests, and weatherproof bags to prove it. As is typical with "GS guys," it is always easy to launch into long conversations about gear and techniques for riding in all sorts of weather and off-tarmac conditions - washout, ruts, sand, you name it. This particular conversation focused on riding in the rain. In particular, the sport bikers within the group were scratching their heads in dismay of the GS guys who talked of rainy commutes as if they were preferred norm. My brother brought nearly everyone to a puzzled standstill when he exclaimed, "It's funny, but when you have a bike like an R1200GS, you find yourself seeking out bad weather. It's like a challenge to see just how much you can endure!" It sounded more like a veiled justification for the thousands of dollars of gear he parades around like a paid spokesman for Aerostich, but it makes me wonder how many of you actually relate to this logic-defying ritual. Do you seek out challenging conditions just to see how much you can ENDURE? Published: Nov 18, 2008 Leave Comments |
