Wandering with Wally

Wally W, Contributing Writer

Wally was born and raised in Chicago until moving south to Shelby, NC in 1986 and has been writing for most of his adult life. Wally built a couple Panhead choppers in his youth and has owned a motorcycle continuously since he was 19 when he bought a BSA 250 instead of an engagement ring. He has owned only a few motorcycles in his life because he likes the stability of knowing and loving his ride. Now he rides a 2005 883 Sportster Custom that he won at the local charity toy run in 2005 - which now has over 44,000 miles on it.

Foggy Parkway
After a few short miles, I got on The Parkway. It was open, the gates were open and the barricades were down. I could finally ride a section of The Parkway. I had really missed it over the winter.

DuPont Forest
When I walked back up to the Hooker Falls overlook, I thought that I’d try to take my picture with the waterfall in the background. It turned out OK but I look a lot like the “Uni-Bomber”.

Falls Park and Confederate Museum
Even though it was later in the morning, the road was deserted. Everybody was in church. I opened up the Sportster but all I could reach was about 92 mph. It’s not meant for speed!

Early Sunday Morning
All week it rained and the weathermen predicted a sunny weekend. After all that rain, I was really looking forward to the weekend - especially Sunday. I laid awake at night thinking about where I would go on such a beautiful morning.
