Starting from Beaudesert to Rathdowney (33k's) the road is well surfaced, generally open, and easy and enjoyable to ride. From Rathdowney it changes quite often, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. The first 10k's to Palen Creek are a little tighter than before, and the road surface is variable. After Palen Creek you start climbing the range, and the first section is great. Very tight, fair road surface, quite a few blind corners, and beware of trucks. This section is great for an experienced rider, either up or down, but beginners must take it easy. This continues for 5 to 10k's, then you have 10+ k's of some of the worst road. It is tight, bumpy, patched, bumpy, prone to potholes, and bumpy. But take it easy, it is worth it. Once you hit the NSW/Qld border the road changes dramatically for the better, and you have 4 or 5 k's of the best twisties around (see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Kp-9JT4vNU=user= this video is of these twisties). The road then opens into open sweepers, and after the Summerland Way (Kyogle) turnoff it gets worse again heading into Woodenbong. It's probably better to not go that last bit to Woodenbong, but rather turn left and head down the Summerland Way - description elsewhere on this site. Fuel is available in Woodenbong during 'business hours', but we haven't found a coffee shop there. (And the road from Woodenbong to Legume, the continuation of the Mt Lindesay Highway, is the worst road I can recall riding. On a map it looks great, but it is 45k's bumpy, poorly kept, excuse for a road. There are upgrading works scheduled, and these may have started by now, May 2007).
