Laguna Seca or Bust: The road to the 2007 Red Bull US Grand Prix - Part 1
It's almost here! If you are like me, you are counting down the days to the glorious spectacle that is MotoGP and the Red Bull US Grand Prix. Could it be better? Monterey, CA in July (hopefully minus last years sweltering heat), Cannery Row, and a season full of drama. The Doctor and Yamaha are re-exerting themselves against the Stoner - Ducati juggernaut. Let's not forget Honda who is flirting with a breakthrough, and Nicky's obvious "home track" advantage. Yeah!!! This is shaping up to be another huge event, and I couldn't be more excited!
A big part of the thrill of the upcoming race, is of course the pilgrimage to the track. Like many of you, I plan to arrive into the area on Thursday and will camp through Sunday, before heading home. To kick off SMR's coverage of the race, I thought it would be nice to offer the Southern Californians among you a peek at the route a few us will be taking up to the track and back. We've broken up the ride into 4 segments, 2 days up and 2 days back, making every effort to maximize fun and minimize time on the 101. While I'm sure many of you have already charted a number of variants to this route, I hope this will seed a few ideas amongst those of you who were otherwise planning to take the straight line approach.
Stay tuned. We'll of course be documenting the ride and providing our thoughts from the event.
If you have alternate routes, especially originating from places other than SoCal, please upload them or draw the tracks using our GPX Builder. We'll organize and feature the rides here on the blog. See you at the race!!
