The middle 1/3 of this route is mostly US 23 (Columbus OH - Johnson City TN). If you want or need to make good time riding north/south consider this road with lighter traffic than I-75 or I-77 (my opinion), sometimes 4-lane divided highway, scenic. Besides the benefits of US 23, highlights include a nice ride along the Ohio River, the southern 180 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway including the great vistas from Mt Mitchell, Tail of the Dragon (US 129 - 318 curves in 11 miles), Cherohala Skyway (I really like this road which runs between Robbinsville NC - Tellico Plains TN).
