Dorsoduro 1200 Preview

The Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 was unveiled today, at the opening of Spazio Broletto 13, the flagship store for all brands of the Piaggio Group. The brand new Aprilia twin simply exudes class. Offering superior performance and handling, the Aprilia maxi supermoto bike is powered by an all-new, hi-tech twin-cylinder engine at the top of its category in terms of performance and environmental compatibility.

With 277 GP wins, Aprilia is the most successful racing brand in the history of the Motorcycle World Championship. This season, it is leading both the rider's (with Max Biaggi) and the manufacturer's standings (with the RSV4) in the SBK World Champions and boasts 43 World Titles. Building on unique expertise and skills gathered in the world of racing, Aprilia continues its development efforts on its large-capacity, high-performance range. Dorsoduro 1200 offers an exhilarating mix of power, agility and handling accuracy.

The twin-cylinder with record-braking performance is cradled in a nimble, lightweight chassis. Sleek design, broad handlebar, accurate details and premium componentry place this motorcycle at the top of the maxi supermoto segment.

The Dorsoduro 1200 marks the debut of the new 1200cc Aprilia V90 engine, with ride-by-wire fuel injection and three injection mappings, liquid cooling, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and twin-spark ignition. With its state-of-art sophisticated technology, the engine turns out 130 HP at 8700 RPM and a 115 Nm peak torque at 7200 RPM, an undisputed record in its category and yet is compliant with the most stringent emission regulations.

Fruit of Aprilia's extraordinary tradition and expertise, the hybrid frame combines a sturdy steel trellis-and-side-plates construction with an aluminium rear subframe, and strikes just the right stiffness balance to tame the powerful 1200cc V90 engine 1200 thanks to superior chassis performance.

Front suspension features a Sachs 43mm upside down fork with shell-cast brackets, adjustable spring preload, compression and rebound damping. The new gas-operated Sachs shock absorber with separate tank is directly pivoted to the swingarm, as per the cantilever layout, with adjustable spring preload, compression and rebound damping.

Aprilia has chosen the best braking technology available today for the Dorsoduro 1200. The front brake adopts Brembo 4-piston radial callipers with a 320 mm disc, while the 240 mm rear disc brake is gripped by a single-piston Brembo calliper. To offer the best in active safety technology, Dorsoduro 1200 is also available with ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) combined with two-channel ABS. Both systems can be disabled independently. This traction control system enables the rider to fully exploit engine power and the grip of the tyres, so as to enjoy the incredible riding pleasure this fun bike has to offer under all riding conditions.
