This is a nice, scenic and hilly ride through some of the best of Missouri Wine Country. There are numerous wineries on the ride but some of note are Stone Hill, Hermannhoff and Mt. Pleasent. The rides starts in High Ridge, MO and continues West on Hwy 30 to St. Clair, MO. At St. Clair, head North on Hwy 47 to Union, MO then turn West on Hwy 50. Follow Hwy 50 to Leslie, MO and turn North on Hwy C. Continue North on Hwy C to New Haven, MO. Be careful on Hwy C due to twisty roads and rural drivers. When in New Haven, be sure to stop at the Hill Top Tavern for a good burger and a cold one. When you leave New Haven, head West on Hwy 100 to Hermann, MO. (www.hermannmissouri.com). Head to the junction of Hwy 100 & Hwy 19, turn left and then turn right on 6th street and follow the signs to Stone Hill Winery. When you have had your fill of good wine and a nice view, ride back down the hill to Hwy 19 and turn left (north), cross the Missouri river, and turn East on Hwy 94. Follow Hwy 94 East to the junction of Hwy 94 & Hwy 47. Be careful when riding Hwy 94, it has nice scenery, twisty and hilly roads, and many carsfully of people visiting the many wineries in the area. Turn right on Hwy 94/47 and continue until Hwy 94 turn off to the East at Dutzow. Be sure to stop at the Dutzow grill for some tasty desert and refreshments. Continue East on Hwy 94 to Augusta, MO and stop at both Mt. Pleasent Winery and Augusta Brewery. Both are good and are nice spots to take a break. When leaving Augusta, ride East on Hwy 94 to Defiance, MO and stop at either bars on the corner for refreshments. The road between Augusta and East of Defiance seems to be the most dangerous area of this route due to traffic and some tight turns. Head out of Defiance and ride East to I-64. This is about 150 miles and with stops takes most of the late morning and afternoon. Ride safe and have fun.
