This route starts in the middle of nowhere, just east of Dead Creek (waterfowl flyway stop), and the bridge from New York. excellent ride through farmland and the foot hills to Bristol. Before long after Bristol the road climbs to the base of the Green Mountains and you will enter the Appalachian Gap. This route is popular with sport bikes and state police. Many riders are scraped off the pavement on both sides of "the Gap". Take it easy, enjoy the scenery and watch out for moose (no kidding). If you want to stay out of the way of the sport bikes, take a right after the bridge outside of Bristol and ride through Lincoln and Lincoln Gap. This is the highest gap in the Green Mountains, a dirt road wisely closed in winter with sheer drops, no guardrails, bad pavement to dirt and very steep grades. End point is Warren, just down Rte 100 from Waitsfield. Route 100 south of Warren is another beautiful ride.
