Best of Northwest Vermont

Ride Description and Comments

Contributer: SMR Community (02-14-2007)
Distance: 242 mi.

This is fantastic 242 mile loop covering the best of northwest Vermont, including RT 17, RT 125, Jay Peak, and the great Smugglers Notch/RT 108. This narrow pass between Stowe and Jeffersonville cuts through the Green Mountains and was used frequently as a smuggled route to and from Canada. It is one of the "must do" rides in this area with nice elevation changes, some steep switchbacks, and beautiful scenery of the surrounding cliffs. Watch for a section where the road narrows to one lane. You'll want to watch out for on-coming cars as many of the turns are blind to oncoming traffic.
