As a new father, trying to find time to ride can be a challenge and full day rides are usually out of the queston. Fortunately there are a multitude of roads in the San Diego back country that arn't too far from my doorstep. This is a great 1/2 day ride. I started a bit before 8am and was back in the driveway a bit after 12pm (just in time to take the kid to Seaworld in the afternoon).
Living in central SD, most of my rides start with a bit of freeway. Fortunately 10 mins later I'm winding up Wildcat Canyon on my way to Ramona to meet up with some friends. From there we take Old Julian Highway, Wynola Road and are soon heading down Sunrise Highway. After a food and rest stop in Pine Valley we cross I8 and head down Lyons Valley and Honey Springs Road to the Hwy 94.
This is one of my favorite stretch of road. It's technical enough to keep you on your toes and it's usually not very crowded. Throw in the great views of the valley and the fantastic road conditions and it's no wonder I try to hit up this section of road every chance I get. Note, if you are going south on Lyons Valley/Honey Springs, keep an eye our for the intersections for the appropriate left turns. They come up fast and it's easy blow past them and end up in the middle of nowhere.
Anyhow, after joining Hwy 94, 10 more mins on the freeway and I'm in my driveway.
