To my knowledge, this is the only paved highway that allows you to ride along the Colorado River. I first rode this in 1979 and again in 2002, I will be back. Highway 128 crosses the Colorado River on the Historic Dewey Bridge. Here is a brief history of the bridge. (The Dewey Bridge served as the only connection between Grand Junction, CO and Moab, UT over the Colorado River from the time it was built in 1916 up until 1986 when it closed to traffic. Built by Midland Bridge Company of Kansas City, it was designed to hold 6 horses, 3 wagons, and 9000 pounds of freight. It cost $25,000 to construct. Today it serves only foot and bike traffic.) If you ride through this area, be sure to include this on your route.
