If you're riding Hwy 2 across Montana's "Hi-line", this side trip is worth while. The 4-mile long dam is the largest hydrallically filled dam in the US. POIs are the Spillway, Power House, Interpretive Center/Dinosaur Museum. Ride the well-travelled dirt/gravel road around the wildlife pasture (buffalo, elk, deer, antelope). Ft Peck Lake is famous for huge walleyes and charter boats are available. I ate at the cafe/bar by the marina. If you don't want to connect to Hwy 200 which is 60 miles south of the dam, ride a few miles down this road. The pasture land is quite a contrast to the mainly flat farm land along Hwy 2 in this part of MT. Lodging is available in Glasgow to the west and Wolf Point to the east. If you're riding through Wolf Point in July, call the Wolf Point Chamber of Commerce for info on the world famous Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede and Rodeo.
