A good ride in good weather however be prepared for foul weather often in the afternoons during the summer. During the shoulder seasons it can get downright nasty and the three passes you will cross can get snow in ANY month of the year. Also some concern can be the large number of RVs that frequent this route but not this summer. The price of fuel has kept most off the road so now the only thing you will need to pass are Harleys. Extend this ride by making it a full loop and going to Telluride (I live there) by turning south at Ridgway or west in Durango. Lizard Head pass is and easy RR grade but very scenic and has really light trafic between Dolores and Telluride. The road between Ridgway and Telluride has significantly more traffic as it is a commuter route to Montrose. Still nice roads just a few more cars.
