The White Pole Road goes back to 1910 when the post on the road that followed the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad from Des Moines to Council Bluffs were painted white. Sectons of the White Post Road officially became a part of US Highway 6 in 1932, at one time the longest continuous east - west route in the United States.

Part of the White Pole Road was recreated by the Iowa communities of Dexter, Stuart, Menio, casey and Adair. Venture off the White Post Road and the site where the Jesse James Gang committed the world's first robbery of a moving train in 1873.
