US 36 - Kansas

If you are like me, you hate to ride Interstates unless it is absolutely necessary. This is one of my favorite routes to travel across Kansas. Kansas is one of the areas that is challenged for good rides compared to other areas of the country, but this is a nice ride across the state. We left St. Joesph, MO on US 36 to Elwood and continued west to Hiawatha. At Hiawatha, continue West on US 36 to Belleville. Continue West on US 36 to Mankato and then to Smith Center. Riding across the plains will dehydrate you, so I have included a few select watering holes if needed. Ride West to Phillipsburg, Norton, and Oberlin. I like to stay at the Frontier Motel in Oberlin, good rates, clean and quite, and biker friendly. After leaving Oberlin, continue West on US 36 to Atwood. From Atwood, choices can be made to continue West into Colorado or North on Hwy 25 into Nebraska.
