Starting from the Hwy 101 side the road is well paved and climbs past the Sonoma Rec area gaining altitude rapidly. About 13 miles from the Dry Creek Road/Canyon Road intersection the road gets much narrower and is usually wet in spots. Pavement is narrow with several steep switchbacks and limited sight lines Some broken pavement. Heavy deer area. This road is heavily patrolled on the 101 side with a 35 mph speed limit. After the road gets narrow there is less enforcement. Check your fuel before you start. No services along the route. A good dual sport road. Not so good for sport bikes on the narrow sections. I have ridden both over this road many times and much prefer to ride my KTM 950.
