Ride Description and Comments

Contributer: TerrySC (04-13-2008)
Distance: 50.2 mi.

This scenic loop through the Chattahoochee National Forest region of Northern Georgia will give you a flavor of the Georgia Blue Ridge Appalachian experience. Begin outside of Helen, GA at the junction of SR17/75 and SR356 and head northeast. The Unicoi State Park will be your first stop as wind up 356 and connect to SR197. From here continue to enjoy the wilderness views as you continue climb up through the mountains to Lake Burton and ultimately connecting with US76. West on the US76 will connect you back to the SR17/75, where you can either head south back to the start or extend your loop via SR180 and the Russell-Brasstown Scenic Byway. This entire region is home to world famous hiking trails, mountains streams and picturesque waterfalls. Give yourself a full day (or two) to soak it all in.

This is the third route from the first book in Hawk Hagebak's 3 book series, Motorcycle Adventures which he has kindly given me permission to recreate in GPS format. They are an excellent supplement to the GPS route files. They are loaded with additional information, and are easily stored on the bike.
