Indiana Covered Bridge TourRide Description and CommentsContributer: Sully1300 (05-26-2008) Indiana is famous for its covered bridges, a third of which are located due west of Indianapolis in Parke County, the self proclaimed 'Covered Bridge Capital of the World.' This historic ride starts westbound on State Route 40 and connects to the 240 through Greencastle and onto Mansfield. From there enjoy the frenetic maze of country lanes, small towns, family farms and covered bridges. Rockville is an excellent rest stop and is central to many of the bridges on the tour. Keep a leisurely pace as the road conditions will vary dramatically with narrow stretches of gravel and uneven surfaces as you cross many of the bridges. As you head back east, don't pass up a chance to explore Turkey Run State Park which is known for its rugged sandstone gorges and the beautiful Narrows Covered Bridge over Sugar Creek.
