This is what I think is a more scenic route than Hwy 491 (Old US 666). I spent the night in Grants, NM prior to heading north on this route and had a great time. There is a lot of old Rt. 66 Hotels and other sites still there. Be aware that this area is high desert and free range. You may go around a curve and find the road covered with sheep (as I did). Be sure to fill up before you head up this road, there may not be any more fuel until you hit Farmington. Enjoy the ride and scenery.
